Most people think home cleaning is done only in the spring, but fall is also the perfect time to show your home some love. Fall is the season when people begin to spend more time indoors because the outdoor temperatures start to drop, the leaves change colors on the trees, and people start preparing their homes for the upcoming holidays.

Like spring cleaning, fall cleaning is an annual tradition, but it is not highlighted the same way as the spring version. However, the same amount of work is usually required for fall cleaning. To give you a hand, here is a fall cleaning checklist to help you streamline the process and end the year with a clean and clutter-free home.

Declutter Beforehand

Before taking on a deep cleaning project, try to declutter each room and throw out unwanted items. The reason behind decluttering beforehand is that your home will be easier to clean versus tackling a messy job. Once decluttering is done, it will be much easier to follow this fall cleaning checklist.

Kitchen

• Clean the oven and refrigerator inside and out. Make sure that it is shining
  
• Give all of your appliances a thorough wipe down
• Remove everything from the kitchen cabinets and wipe everything down, including the cabinet doors
• Clean the kitchen sink thoroughly using a cleaning product such as soap and water or disinfectant
• Clean the inside of the dishwasher
• Perform any repairs or maintenance needed to your countertops
• Clean the grout on any tiles in the kitchen to include the floor

Living Spaces

• Make sure to clean and vacuum any upholstered furniture. You want to be sure to pull it out from any walls and clean underneath and behind it as well
  
• Wipe down all window sills, baseboards, and door frames
• Clean off all appliances and electronics such as TVs, sound systems, gaming systems, remote controls, etc

Bathroom

• The floors and the toilet are the most important to clean since they are used most often in the bathroom
  
• The bathtub and sink should be shining, dirt-free, and residue-free
• Clean the showerhead and all of the faucets
• Remove any tile stains, mildew, soap scum, hard water buildup, or any other dirt
• Make sure to clean behind the toilet

Bedroom

• Make sure to wash all of your winter bedding if it has been sitting in storage
  
• Vacuum the mattresses
• Clean all baseboards, window sills, and door frames
• Clean out items in your closet to focus on the current season

Outdoors

• Clean all outdoor furniture before storage
  
• Service all gardening equipment before storage
• Install storm windows and remove window screens
• Clean gutters and drainage spouts
• Change smoke detector batteries
• Clean and replace any air conditioner (HVAC) filters
• Check chimneys and fireplaces, sweep if needed
• Winterize any pools or features that consume water
• Clean ceiling fans and reverse them
• Do an indoor home inspection
• Prepare winter landscaping
